Dr. Panagiotopoulou is professor of sociology at the Faculty of Media Studies at Athens University and has a wide ranging experience in the research of communication, regional television, new technologies and e-govern. Her research interest on the Olympics focuses on media planning of the Games, the analysis of television coverage of Olympic ceremonies and volunteers, with special attention to the Athens 2004 Games.
Dr. Panagiotopoulou was appointed as visiting professor of the International Chair in Olympism in 2005. Various academic activities aimed at the university community were held during the invited professors stay at the UAB (from 16th to 26th October 2009), including the conference Media Planning of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and the seminar Athens 2004: Sport or Television?: a Social and Media Perspective of the Games, organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication at the UAB.
