Olympic Studies Net

Olympic Studies Net is a source of information on Olympic knowledge that aims to provide accurate and updated profiles on university scholars specialised on the study of the Olympic phenomenon, university research centres and groups dedicated to Olympic studies, as well as those institutions holding archival material on the organisation of an Olympic Games edition.

The Olympic Games have become a phenomenon excelling sport. For fifteen days, athletes meet in a city to compete in various sporting events. But back scenes are more complex and rich: economic, cultural and political issues; a philosophy of life that combines sport, culture, education and development; a sporting movement; and a multi-dimensional impact for the host city and country.

This reality has resulted in an increase of attention paid by different social actors, including the academic world. Although the relationship between the Olympic Movement and the university goes back to the establishment of the modern Olympic Games in Sorbonne in 1984, it was not until the 90s that a more global phenomenon developed, known as “Olympic Studies”.

Through Olympic Studies Net, the Olympic Studies Centre at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (CEO-UAB) aims to contribute to the dissemination of the academic knowledge at worldwide level, as well as to the development of Olympic studies.

Olympic Studies Net results from the previous reference source Olympic Studies International Directory, a joint project of CEO-UAB and the IOC Olympic Studies Centre from 1995 until 2003. For further information on the project, please contact our team.
